2008's Welsh Boat Race saw another double win for Cardiff! On the 16th April, Men's and Women's crews from Cardiff and Swansea University took to the River Taff for an exciting day of racing.
It was a bright, sunny afternoon and Cardiff were confident that the trophies would be staying with us for another year. Amid cheers from their supporters, the two teams from each university faced each other for the all important coin toss before the rowers and their coxes took to the water. The ladies raced first seeing a victory for the Cardiff reds over the Swansea greens by just one length. An hour later, the men held a confident lead over Swansea to make it a double victory for Cardiff University. In time-honoured fashion, the coxes from the winning crews were dunken into the cold and murky River Taff before the teams collected their trophies, medals and bubbly.
Both clubs would like to thank all their sponsors, and everyone who has given up so much of their time to make this event the biggest and best Welsh Boat Race yet!
The first Tomos Watkin Welsh Boat Race took place in 2006. Cardiff dominated the days races by winning both the Men's and Women's events. In 2007, the 2nd Welsh Boat Race Men's and Women's events were won by Cardiff.
The event was sponsored by Welsh Brewery 'Tomos Watkin' who kindly provided the Winners Medals and Welsh Boat Race Trophy.

Both Club's would like to thank the Cardiff Habour Authority, Barage Control and WARA for their help and support in organising the event.
