The Welsh Varsity Boat Race was first held in 2006 and is the annual battle between Cardiff and Swansea University. The day consists of four races- Senior Mens, Senior Womens, Novice mens and Novice Womens.

The Welsh Boat Race is developing every year as an event with the hope of one day emulating the famous English Varsity contest between the universities of Oxford and Cambridge. Whilst Cardiff has dominated the event in its short history Swansea crews are always keeping Cardiff on their toes.
